Webster鈥檚 MA in Reading is one of only a few of its kind recognized nationally and accredited by the International Literacy Association (ILA). Our program is also currently the only one in Missouri that is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).
Our focus is on the science of reading and structured literacy and its application for best practices in the assessment of reading difficulties and instructional methodologies that meet the needs of all learners, including those with dyslexia. Through this program of study you will develop the ability to be a leader in literacy and an advocate for all learners.

Webster鈥檚 MA in Reading offers the coursework that you need to apply for Reading Specialist Certification from DESE. Our certification programs have been approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.

After completing the coursework, you will be qualified to apply for Certification as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).
Our focus is on the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy.

Dr. Paula Witkowski
Director of MA in Reading and the Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia, Speech-language Pathologist and Reading Specialist, PhD in Literacy and a Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia from the Dyslexia Training Institute in San Diego.
Research focused on assessment and intervention strategies for children and adults with dyslexia, the implementation of content area literacy classes for struggling adolescent readers in high school settings, and on issues of motivation and engagement in adolescent and adult learners.
Teaches classes on the science of reading, structured literacy and assessment and intervention for dyslexia.

More About This Program
Our reading instructors are trained in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS), and the program is approved and recommended by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for all educator preparation programs and current teachers.
The Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia is automatically a part of the MA in Reading program. The student will earn both the MA and GCRT, will be qualified by DESE to be a reading specialist, and can apply to for the dyslexia certification.
The Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia can also be pursued on its own.
