Two Army personnel including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed Thursday evening in an encounter with militants at Bhattaduria near the Surankote area of the Poonch district of Jammu. On October 11, an army officer and four soldiers were killed in action during an encounter between security forces and militants in the Surankote area of the Poonch sector.

And now three days later a fresh encounter between militants and the army ensued at Bhattaduria near Surankote on Thursday night after the army established the contact during a combing operation. The army had launched a combing operation to track down militants who had held a fierce gun battle with the troops in the forests around the Dehra Ki Gali area on October 11.

Jammu based army spokesman said, “in an ongoing counter-terrorist operation in general area Narkhas forest, Mendhar area of Poonch there has been exchange of fire between army troops and terrorists during evening hours on Thursday”. “During the ensuing exchange of fire one JCO and one soldier have been critically injured. The operations are under progress,” he added.
