Cinemas will be reopening in Mumbai after many months and fans of Shah Rukh Khan’s super hit film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ will be hoping that it comes back to Maratha Mandir to create more records at the box office.

Manoj Desai of Maratha Mandir spoke exclusively to ETimes and said, “I really can’t say if we will be able to play the film right now. If the government makes double vaccination and its checks compulsory, it will become difficult for us to keep checking each and every patron, which is a tedious process and will result in loss making for us. We will only be able to host 2 shows in a day in such a situation. We have already incurred enough losses in the last two years and will not be able to sustain any more.”

‘DDLJ’ was being screened at Maratha Mandir since October 20, 1995 and had created records that have gone down in the history of Indian cinema. In 2011 when a theatre strike was imposed for several reasons, producer Yash Chopra had requested the cinema owners to allow the film to complete 1000 weeks, which was achieved in December 2014. On March 16, 2020 the film had been showcased for 1251 weeks. Desai added, “We have created records, but this pandemic has changed everything. We are not sure if people will come back to watch the film, the way they used to do in the past.”
