Happy Diwali! Happiness is in the Air, its Diwali everywhere. Diyas are God’s way of expressing that there will always be a light to drive away the darkness. It’s that time of the year when you keep thinking about Diwali gifts. I decided to be creative and to make an impression with my personalised DIY Diwali Snacks and Sweets Idea| With Pictures & Video Tutorial

Diwali to me is a festival of nostalgic childhood memories, a sky full of fireworks, mouth full of sweets, a home full of diyas and a heart full of love and joy to spread. Keep kids occupied with these 10 activity ideas for Diwali.

Diwali festivities are always known for traditional Indian sweets -‘Mithai’.Sweets are considered to be pure and an offering to the gods. They are a gesture of greeting people, family, and friends in a warm and sweet way. But gone are the days when people used to gorge on store-bought mithai. They shun the box of sweets and opt for handmade goodies instead. The new generation is influencing trends and being innovative with gifts is the mantra. Everyone wants savoury snacks to munch on during a family game of cards or with that Deepavali cocktail or beer.

Visits are going to be few this year.  Check out How to celebrate Diwali and Kali Puja virtually. With the kind of year it has been, it’s time to eat healthily and spread the cheer. I am not a “sweet” person at all; offer me a packet of snacks day or night and I’m your friend for life. But the Diwali tradition of exchanging sweets gains significance these days. Traditions are something to hold on to, in a confused world, right now. Do you know the reasons for Cleaning the home for Diwali?

I ordered for Mason Jars from Amazon and packed them with snacks and dessert. The contents will be relished and the cute jars can be reused.

Crunchy Chidwa Mixture

For the snacks, I made a Crunchy Chidwa mixture.  Fried the chidwa, roasted the nuts and added lots of spice to it.

Poured them into the mason jar and tied a small string of twine to it.

Homemade Chidwa or Flattened rice mixture- It has the crisp texture from the fried chivda along with the nuttiness of roasted peanuts, cashews, chana dal and fried curry leaves.

Just gather all the INGREDIENTS

500 gms Thick Chidwa

100 gms roasted peanuts

¼ cup of fresh curry leaves

100 gms roasted chana dal

Oil for frying

Salt to taste

Red chilli powder to taste (optional)

2 tbsp Turmeric Powder

10 Mason jars

Jute strings

100 gms cashewnuts

Oil for frying

Salt to taste

Red chilli powder to taste (optional)

1 tbsp Turmeric Powder

Chidwa Mixture

METHOD

Firstly, heat oil till it is piping hot. Take a sieve and add the washed, dried curry leaves to it. Place the leaves with the sieve in hot oil till they are crackling crisp. Drain on a paper towel and keep aside.

Subsequently, fry the chidwa, little by little in hot oil, preferably in a sieve or strainer. It will puff up instantly. Remove on kitchen towel.

Fry all the chidwa and transfer to a large bowl.

Next, temper with salt, turmeric and red chilli powder.

Finally, store in an air-tight jar once the chidwa cools down to room temperature.

For the sweet, I made this Shahi Paneer Pudding. Filled the jar with it, topped with some cubed paneer, colourful sprinkles, almonds and choco chips.

Shahi Paneer Pudding

To give it a Diwali touch, I stuck a tea candle on each jar with double tape.

Yes, it did take time and effort but the end result is worth it.

Family and friends will relish every bit of it rather than pass it on to someone else like the box of Soan papdi!
